State Bank of India revises BSBD account withdrawal rules

State Bank of India (SBI) is revising the rules for Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) accounts, effective October 1, 2026. Under the new policy, customers will be allowed four free cash withdrawals per month. Any cash withdrawals exceeding this limit will incur a charge of ₹15 plus GST per transaction.

The bank has also updated how free transactions are calculated. Previously, digital transactions were excluded from the monthly limit; however, under the revised rules, more transaction types will be included in the calculation of the four-withdrawal limit.

Despite these changes, SBI noted that digital transactions will continue to be free without restrictions. The BSBD account is designed for zero-balance maintenance and includes a basic RuPay ATM-cum-debit card. Customers holding a BSBD account are prohibited from holding any other savings account with the bank and must close existing accounts within 30 days of opening a BSBD account.
