Hurricane Trudy intensifies to Category 3, threatening Mexican coasts

Hurricane Trudy has rapidly intensified into a major Category 3 hurricane in the Pacific, with meteorologists warning it could reach Category 4 strength before approaching the Mexican coasts of Colima and Jalisco. The storm is expected to pass within approximately 65 kilometers of these coasts between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Authorities have issued warnings for torrential rainfall, particularly in Colima, where accumulations of 150 to 250 millimeters are possible. Other regions, including Michoacán, Jalisco, and parts of Guerrero and Oaxaca, face risks of heavy winds, high waves of up to five meters, and potential landslides or flooding.

Additionally, the hurricane's moisture is expected to interact with cold front number 2, triggering severe rainfall across the Gulf of Mexico. President Claudia Sheinbaum has advised residents in high-risk areas to monitor Civil Protection updates and utilize temporary shelters if necessary.
