State Commission identifies corruption risks in party financing law

The State Commission for Prevention of Corruption (DKSK) has identified several regulatory corruption risks within the Law on Financing Political Parties in North Macedonia. Following an anti-corruption audit conducted as part of the commission’s 2026 legislative review plan, officials have proposed specific amendments to mitigate these risks.

Key areas of concern include Article 10, which governs the distribution of state budget funds to political parties. The DKSK questioned whether the current allocation model is proportional and ensures fair opportunities for all participants. Additionally, the commission noted a lack of preventive mechanisms and sanctions regarding party membership fees under Article 14.

Further recommendations address Article 16, concerning individual donations from physical and legal entities, and Article 17, regarding the transparency of donation registers. The commission emphasized that because these funds are public resources that are continuously increasing, the legal framework must be updated to ensure transparency, equality, and alignment with the Electoral Code.
