State Farm distributes $136 million dividend to Louisiana drivers

State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company will pay roughly $136 million to eligible Louisiana auto‑insurance policyholders, averaging about $138 per vehicle. The dividend applies to customers who held a State Farm Private Passenger Auto Voluntary Preferred policy as of Dec. 31, 2025. Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple said the payout reflects the insurer’s stronger‑than‑expected underwriting results, with premiums exceeding claim costs, a trend he attributes to fewer accidents and modern safety features.

Policyholders with an email address will receive a notice to select a payment method between early August and early September; those without email will be mailed paper checks. Temple also highlighted recent state legislative reforms—such as changes to comparative fault law, repeal of the direct‑action statute, limits on third‑party litigation financing, and stricter distracted‑driving rules—that have helped lower insurance costs across Louisiana.
