State Farm begins $5B nationwide dividend payout
Overview
State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company has begun distributing a massive $5 billion nationwide cash-back dividend, the largest in its 100-year history. This payout follows a significant turnaround in the insurer’s auto underwriting performance, which saw a $4.6 billion gain in 2025 compared to a $2.7 billion loss in 2024. The company reported a total company-wide net income of $12.9 billion in 2025, a turnaround attributed to stabilized insurance rates and fewer claims.
The dividend covers eligible policies for more than 49 million vehicles. To qualify, customers must have held an active personal auto policy at any point during 2025 and received a calculated dividend of at least $10. Payouts vary by state and premium amount, typically ranging from 4% to 10% of the 2025 premium, with an estimated national average of approximately $100 per vehicle.
As part of this initiative, State Farm is issuing $136 million specifically to Louisiana drivers who held a State Farm Private Passenger Auto Voluntary Preferred policy as of Dec. 31, 2025. In Louisiana, the payout averages about $138 per vehicle. Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple noted that the dividend is supported by recent state legislative reforms.
Distribution is occurring in waves by state through the end of 2026. As of mid-August 2026, more than 7.2 million checks have been mailed. Eligible customers will be notified via email or official communications from the company or its distribution provider, Veritas, to select a payment method. Those with email addresses on file can choose digital methods—such as Zelle, Venmo, or PayPal—or a physical check. Those without digital contact information will automatically receive a paper check by mail.
