State Farm to Pay $136 Million Dividend to Louisiana Drivers
State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, which insures about 30% of Louisiana's private passenger auto market, will issue $136 million in special dividends to qualifying policyholders in the state. Eligible drivers with a State Farm private passenger auto voluntary preferred policy as of Dec. 31, 2025 will receive an average payment of $138 per vehicle. Payments will be sent by email between early August and early September 2026, with checks mailed to those without email addresses, and will be distributed in phases through the end of the year.
The dividend is part of a $5 billion nationwide payout announced by State Farm in February, reflecting the insurer's strong underwriting performance. Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple said the dividend results from recent legal reforms and a wave of rate decreases that are expected to save policyholders a combined $384 million on future policies. Reforms include changes to the state's comparative fault system, repeal of the direct‑action statute, new limits on third‑party litigation financing, reversal of the Housley presumption, and increased medical cost controls.
