State of Mexico allocates 664 million pesos for free public‑transport rides and transfers

The Government of the State of Mexico, led by Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez, has earmarked 664 million 620 thousand pesos to subsidise free rides and free transfers on the Mexibús and Mexicable systems from 1 July 2024 to 12 July 2026. The programme targets people with disabilities, seniors and children under five, covering more than 66 million trips – roughly half as free rides and half as free transfers across 11 transfer points in the Valle de México.

An additional 2 million 338 thousand free trips have been funded for the Trolebús Mexiquense Chalco‑Santa Marta line, bringing the total number of subsidised journeys to about 68 million. Beneficiaries include residents of municipalities such as Ecatepec, Tecámac, Coacalco, Zumpango, Nezahualcóyotl, Chicoloapan, Chimalhuacán, Tultitlán, Cuautitlán Izcalli and Tlalnepantla. Officials said the initiative aims to improve mobility, reduce household transport costs and promote social inclusion.
