State of Mexico Congress moves to declare Coffee Producer Day

Committees of the State of Mexico Congress have approved an initiative to declare April 24 as the ‘Day of the Mexiquense Coffee Producer’. The proposal, presented by Deputy Gloria Vanessa Linares Zetina of the PVEM, aims to recognize the economic, social, cultural, and environmental importance of coffee production in the region.

The approved decree mandates that public institutions, educational and research bodies, business organizations, and local governments promote activities to strengthen the coffee sector. These efforts will focus on improving competitiveness, providing technical training, preserving cultural value, and fostering sustainable development, subject to budget availability.

In addition to the commemorative date, the PVEM parliamentary group has engaged with the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI), the state government, and the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico to develop a project seeking a denomination of origin for Mexiquense coffee.
