State of Mexico crime drops as Tlaxcala logs low burglary rates
In the State of Mexico, authorities reported that seven high‑impact crimes fell in May compared with April. Extortion declined by 17 %, homicide by 10 % and robbery of public transport with violence dropped 14 %, alongside reductions in vehicle theft, femicide and home‑burglary. Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez announced the results on social media, noting the “teamwork between all levels of government” that contributed to the improvement.
Separately, a study by TResearch International using data from the Secretariado Ejecutivo del Sistema Nacional de Seguridad Pública found that Tlaxcala recorded only 38 burglary complaints per million residents in April, placing it among the five Mexican states with the lowest incidence. The national average was 142 complaints per million, with only Jalisco, Sinaloa, Yucatán and Chiapas reporting lower rates. The analysis highlights that official figures reflect only reported cases, which may differ from actual crime levels.
