IECM prepares registration system for independent candidates
The Instituto Electoral de la Ciudad de México (IECM) is preparing the Candidacy Registration System (SIREC) for independent candidates participating in the 2026-2027 Local Ordinary Electoral Process. This system will allow individuals to submit applications and documentation to qualify for positions such as Deputies to the Mexico City Congress, Mayoralties, and Councilors without being affiliated with a political party.
In Jalisco, the Morena party has requested the Electoral and Citizen Participation Institute (IEPC) to provide a specific timeline for the completion of its own registration system. The party expressed concerns regarding security and transparency, citing previous issues during the 2024 process where unauthorized access to party records was allegedly observed.
In the State of Mexico, the deadline for the 2026 vehicle license plate renewal program (Reemplacamiento) is August 31. The program offers tax benefits, including the condonation of certain vehicle acquisition taxes and arrears for specific plate issuance years. Additionally, the state government held the second edition of the ‘Trueque Verde’ event in Toluca, where over 500 people exchanged used school supplies and uniforms to promote sustainable consumption.
Meanwhile, Toluca is set to host the third edition of the Pulque and Pozole Fair from October 16 to 18, 2026. The event aims to showcase regional gastronomy, featuring traditional drinks and dishes with approximately 30 exhibitors.
