Governor Delfina Gómez advances infrastructure, health and social programs in State of Mexico

The State of Mexico marked the one‑year anniversary of its "Plan Integral para la Zona Oriente," a programme of 121 coordinated actions across ten municipalities that aims to improve mobility, water, health, housing, education, security and public services for more than 10 million residents. As part of the plan, the state has rehabilitated over 340 kilometres of streets in municipalities such as Chalco, Chimalhuacán, Ecatepec and Nezahualcóyotl, using specialised equipment to speed up paving and maintenance.

The legislature approved the donation of a 2,075‑square‑metre property in Chimalhuacán to the IMSS for a new Centre of Education and Childcare, expanding early‑childhood services. The health secretariat also expanded inclusive care for the LGBTTIQ+ community, strengthening training, preventive services and the Clinic of Sexual and Gender Diversity.

Internationally, the state received several awards in 2026: the UITP Merit Prize for the public‑transport modernisation project, the ICCA award for critical communications in public safety, a UN‑regional best‑practice prize for itinerant justice caravans, and a second‑place Latam Digital award for its advance‑care registration platform.

Following heavy rains in Temascaltepec, Governor Gómez visited the affected San Pedro Tenayac community, activating the Incident Command System and the DN‑III‑E plan. Federal, state and municipal forces—including the army, National Guard and civil protection agencies—were deployed to clear debris, mitigate landslides and support residents.
