State of Mexico highway blockade as residents protest poor road conditions

Residents of Santa Cruz Pueblo Nuevo in the municipality of Tenango del Valle blocked the toll highway to Ixtapan de la Sal on Sunday morning, using trucks to dump large amounts of earth onto the pavement. The protest demands a response from the State of Mexico government over the severe deterioration of local streets and lack of road infrastructure.

The State Security Secretariat deployed personnel to maintain order, while officials from the State Government’s General Secretariat sought dialogue with community leaders. Drivers are advised to avoid the route and use alternative roads until the blockage is lifted.
