State of Mexico Judiciary expands legal access via mobile services and pro bono alliance
The Judiciary of the State of Mexico (PJEdomex) is implementing new initiatives to improve legal access for vulnerable populations. Through the ‘Caravanas de Justicia’ program, judicial services have been brought directly to communities such as Atenco to reduce economic and geographic barriers.
During these mobile sessions, public servants provide guidance and assistance with various legal procedures, including identity verification, birth certificate rectification, mutual consent divorces, and concubinage accreditation. The program also offers mediation services and assistance with obtaining electronic signatures.
Additionally, PJEdomex has introduced the ‘Alianza Pro Bono’ program. This initiative connects legal professionals with citizens who cannot afford private defense. The alliance aims to foster a culture of voluntary legal service in areas such as human rights defense and legal sponsorship, coordinating efforts between the judiciary, academia, and practicing lawyers.
