State of Mexico sees 34% drop in high‑impact crimes in early 2026
According to data reviewed by the State of Mexico’s peace table chaired by Governor Delfina Gómez, the incidence of high‑impact crimes fell 34 percent in the first five months of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025. The sharpest declines were in non‑violent vehicle theft (‑47 %), extortion (‑41 %), violent robbery of businesses (‑39 %) and intentional homicide (‑38 %). Reductions were also recorded in violent vehicle theft, public‑transport theft, home‑theft, transporter theft and assault on pedestrians.
State officials attribute the results to coordinated security institutions, intelligence work and targeted operational deployments across multiple municipalities. The improvements moved the State of Mexico to 21st nationally for intentional homicide and 12th for overall crime incidence per 100 000 inhabitants.
