State of Mexico tackles forest pest outbreak on 1,648 hectares
The government of the State of Mexico, led by Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez, carried out a forest‑health operation covering 1,648 hectares during the first five months of 2026. Coordinated by the Protectora de Bosques del Estado de México (Probosque), the effort included diagnosis, sanitation and technical assistance.
From January to May 2026, Probosque issued 98 sanitation notifications, 92 of which targeted bark‑beetle infestations that affected 291.81 hectares and an estimated 44,230 m³ of timber. The remaining notifications addressed parasitic plants, epiphytic plants and sucking insects. Specialists performed 225 phytosanitary diagnostics on 814.07 hectares, conducted 127 technical‑assistance visits for forest‑land owners in 34 municipalities, and made 94 field visits to create and validate technical reports. The program aims to preserve biodiversity, protect ecosystem services and safeguard forest resources for millions of residents.
