Status: Rejected to debut at Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival

The Filipino film ‘Status: Rejected’ will make its international debut at the 30th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia. Directed by Vahn Leinard C. Pascual, the film is the sole Philippine entry in the festival’s First Feature Competition, which runs from November 6 to 22.

Following a win at the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival 2026, the narrative explores the life of Virginia ‘Biring’ Divinagracia, a 69-year-old widow played by Ruby Ruiz. After facing multiple U.S. tourist visa denials, Biring seeks connection through an online romance with an American man, navigating themes of aging, social isolation, and generational tension.

The film was co-written by Pascual, Jaymar Castro, and Ivan Villacorta Gentolizo. It features a cast including Alessandra de Rossi and Beverly Salviejo, portraying elderly women as complex individuals rather than passive victims.
