Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival 30th edition lineup

Overview

The Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF) has announced the selections for its 30th edition, which is scheduled to run in Estonia from November 6 to 22. The festival lineup includes the Baltic Film Competition, Critics’ Picks, and Rebels with a Cause sections.

The Baltic Film Competition will feature 12 films from Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, including international co-productions across genres such as political drama, comedy, film noir, and science fiction. Curator Edvinas Pukšta noted that several films in this section “express support for Ukraine.” The winner of the Best Baltic Feature Film award will receive a €5,000 grant. Additionally, the Critics’ Picks section will present ten world premieres, while the Rebels with a Cause section will showcase nine films.

Among the featured works is the Filipino film ‘Status: Rejected’, directed by Vahn Leinard C. Pascual. Following a win at the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival 2026, the film will make its international debut as the sole Philippine entry in the First Feature Competition. The narrative, co-written by Pascual, Jaymar Castro, and Ivan Villacorta Gentolizo, follows Virginia ‘Biring’ Divinagracia, a 69-year-old widow played by Ruby Ruiz. After facing multiple U.S. tourist visa denials, the character seeks connection through an online romance with an American man, exploring themes of aging, social isolation, and generational tension. The cast also includes Alessandra de Rossi and Beverly Salviejo.
