Valve's Steam Deck sales plunge over 80% after price hikes
In May 2026 Valve raised the price of its Steam Deck handheld by 44% to 46%, moving the 512 GB model from $549 to $789 and the 1 TB model from $649 to $949. The increase was attributed to rising RAM and storage component costs.
Analyses by Boiling Steam, using Steam revenue rankings, average selling price and SteamDB data, estimate that weekly sales have fallen by about 82%, dropping from roughly 11,000‑18,000 units per week to between 1,400 and 3,000 units. Correspondingly, weekly revenue is projected to have slipped from $6‑10 million to $1.2‑2.5 million, a revenue decline of roughly 72%.
The handheld’s Steam ranking fell from a consistent top‑5 position to around 14th place, and the lower‑priced LCD version was discontinued, leaving only the more expensive OLED models. Competitors such as Xbox Ally and Lenovo Legion Go, which offer stronger hardware at lower prices, have further eroded demand.
