Steaua București legacy seen in Spanish club and Romanian Liga 2 struggles

The legacy of the Romanian football club Steaua București extends to Spain, where a small club in Asturias, named Stiaua d’Asturies, was founded in 2005. The founders chose the name as a tribute to Steaua and the legendary player Marius Lăcătuș, who played for Oviedo. The club adopted yellow kits to mirror the Romanian national colors and has used the motto “Puxa Stiaua” (Go Stiaua) over its 16 seasons in the regional leagues. Beyond football, the club has been recognized for its social projects and for promoting the Asturian language.

In Romania, Steaua București continues to struggle in Liga 2, currently sitting in 17th place with six points after nine matches. Dinamo București official Andrei Nicolescu has commented on the situation, noting that Steaua lacks the legal standing for promotion under current regulations. Nicolescu suggested that while local municipalities may support traditional community clubs, government ministries cannot provide financial support to specific teams to drive performance.
