Steaua București Liga II competition struggles

Overview

Steaua București has faced ongoing challenges in the Romanian Liga II. In September 2026, the club secured a 2-1 victory against Gloria Bistrița, moving to 18th place with five points. Following the match, coach Daniel Oprița expressed frustration regarding the club’s instability and the difficulties of competing in the second division, stating, “I am suffocating from all these years in Liga 2.”

By October 2026, the club’s position in the league remained difficult, sitting in 17th place with six points after nine matches. Amidst these struggles, discussions regarding the club’s status have emerged, with Dinamo București official Andrei Nicolescu suggesting that Steaua lacks the legal standing required for promotion under current regulations.
