Stefano De Martino reshapes Sanremo 2027, plans to drop 'Nuove Proposte' category

Stefano De Martino has been confirmed as both artistic director and presenter of the Sanremo Music Festival for the 2027 edition. Media reports cite his intention to overhaul the format: the number of "Big" artists will be reduced, all performers are expected to appear each night, and the traditional separate competition for emerging acts – the "Nuove Proposte" – may be eliminated. According to rumors from Dagospia cited by Giuseppe Candela, the winner of Sanremo Giovani would be placed directly among the Big artists, bringing the total roster to about 24 contestants. De Martino has already hinted at a prospective line‑up that could include names such as Emma Marrone, Elodie, Mahmood, Blanco, Cesare Cremonini, Tiziano Ferro, Madame and Tony Effe. He announced the 2027 dates on Instagram and confirmed a shift of the youth‑talent selection to the Access Prime Time slot on Rai 1, ending the separate Rai 2 programme. Former producer Claudio Cecchetto praised De Martino’s appointment, saying “Menomale, Sanremo è stato rappresentato solo da anzianinella conduzione e direzione artistica.” The changes are still unconfirmed by Rai, but the speculation has sparked widespread discussion about the future of Italy’s historic music contest.
