Stelios Rammos's philosophical views on history republished

In honor of the late Greek philosopher Stelios Rammos, the weekly newspaper Capital.gr has republished his philosophical reflections on the nature of history. This follows a September 2025 special edition titled ‘Great Ideas’ produced in collaboration with the New York Times.

Rammos explores history as a science that transcends a mere collection of past events. He distinguishes between history as the conscious human existence within time and historiography as the subsequent study and representation of those events. He argues that while animals evolve, they lack history because they do not possess a conscious existence in time to connect events into a shared meaning.
