Indonesia pushes Garuda Top Schools with teacher prep and new campuses

Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Stella Christie said the Garuda Top Schools program is a long‑term investment of President Prabowo Subianto to develop high‑quality human resources. She emphasized that the success of the schools depends on the quality of teachers, noting that "Sekolah Garuda adalah visi mulia Bapak Presiden" and that educators must combine intellectual ability with integrity and mental health.

A four‑day workshop trained 54 teachers from four Garuda senior high schools on curriculum, school governance, boarding‑school management, character education and international standards. The program also produced operational documents such as curricula, dormitory guidelines, key performance indicators and a learning‑management‑system plan.

Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Brian Yuliarto inspected the construction of a Garuda school in Konawe Selatan, Southeast Sulawesi. By the end of June 2026 the project was 61.9% complete, with facilities that will include classrooms, male and female dormitories, staff housing, a multipurpose hall, cafeteria and sports complex. Completion is targeted for 27 September 2026, after which a maintenance phase will begin.
