Stella Lefty reacts to ‘Saturday Night Live’ parody of songwriting scrutiny

Singer Stella Lefty has responded positively to a cut-for-time ‘Saturday Night Live’ sketch that parodies the online scrutiny surrounding her songwriting. The Weekend Update segment, featuring cast member Veronika Slowikowska as Lefty, poked fun at the comparisons between Lefty’s breakout hit ‘Boston’ and existing tracks.

The sketch depicted Lefty insisting her music is original while performing melodies reminiscent of artists such as Chappell Roan, Taylor Swift, and Dolly Parton. The satire touches on real-world debates regarding Lefty’s credits; her song ‘Boston’ interpolates a melody from Noah Kahan’s ‘Stick Season,’ with Kahan receiving a songwriting credit.

Lefty shared the clip on her Instagram Story, praising Slowikowska’s impression and calling the segment ‘funny asf.’ Despite the parody, Lefty has experienced significant commercial success, with ‘Boston’ reaching No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay and No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
