Stellantis 1.2 PureTech engine faces reliability concerns

The Stellantis 1.2 PureTech engine, specifically the first and second generations utilizing an oil bath belt system, is facing significant reliability concerns. While a newer version featuring a timing chain was introduced in 2023 to address these issues, several popular models continue to use the older belt-driven version.

Mechanics have reported a high volume of engine failures, with some estimates suggesting between 700,000 and 750,000 affected vehicles in Spain alone, primarily produced between 2013 and 2022. Experts advise frequent maintenance and monitoring to prevent costly engine damage.

Models still utilizing the belt-driven version include the Jeep Avenger, Opel Corsa, Opel Mokka, and Peugeot 208. Consumers are advised to check specific engine configurations, particularly the 'Turbo 100 hp' and 'Turbo 130 hp' variants, to avoid the problematic belt system.
