Stellantis and JAC Motors discuss Maserati partnership

Chinese automaker JAC Motors has officially confirmed ongoing discussions with Stellantis and Huawei to explore a potential three-way collaboration. According to a filing with the Shanghai Stock Exchange, the parties are evaluating a partnership, though no binding agreement has been signed and the project remains subject to significant uncertainty.

The proposed collaboration focuses on Maserati, aiming to develop two new electric models: a medium-to-large SUV and a large GT. Under this framework, Huawei would provide software, electronics, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) through its Harmony Intelligent Mobility ecosystem, while JAC would handle engineering. Maserati would contribute brand prestige, design, and premium positioning.

For the Stellantis plant in Cassino, Italy, this potential deal offers a path toward revitalizing production. The company has scheduled key meetings to address the industrial future of the site, including discussions with Italian labor unions (Fim, Fiom, and Uilm) on October 15, followed by a meeting with the Lazio Region leadership to clarify production and employment guarantees.
