Stellantis announces 2026-2036 model plan and Belvidere reopening

Stellantis has unveiled a strategic development plan for the period 2026–2036, focusing on five of its brands: Fiat (including Abarth), Jeep, Lancia, and Leapmotor. The plan emphasizes electrification and technological innovation, with a particular focus on hybrid and fully electric models. New Fiat models, such as the Grizzly and Grizzly Fastback, are expected to be officially presented at the upcoming Paris Motor Show.

In the United States, Stellantis announced that its Belvidere plant in Illinois is scheduled to reopen by the end of 2029. The facility is expected to produce a new Jeep Cherokee based on the STLA One platform, along with a second, yet-to-be-announced model. This project involves an investment of approximately $2.1 billion and aims for a production capacity of 200,000 vehicles per year.

However, local labor representatives from UAW Local 1268 have expressed caution regarding the Belvidere reopening. Workers have noted a history of shifting plans and delayed promises, including previously proposed battery plants and distribution centers that did not materialize. The new Cherokee is intended for the 2030 model year.
