Stellantis begins Smart Car production at Morocco's Kénitra plant

Stellantis has launched production of its Smart Car platform at the Atlantic Free Zone plant in Kénitra, Morocco. The first models to be assembled are the Fiat Fastback and the Grizzly SUV, with sales expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2026 and offered with a range of powertrains from conventional to electric.

The Kénitra facility, inaugurated in 2019, now has an annual capacity of 400,000 passenger cars, 135,000 micromobility units and 350,000 engines, bringing its total potential output close to 700,000 units. New activities at the site include the manufacture of dashboard cross‑beams and batteries for electric vehicles. Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour highlighted the plant’s growing role in Morocco’s automotive sector, while Samir Cherfan, Stellantis’ Africa and Middle‑East operations director, linked the launch to the group’s FastLane 2030 strategy, aiming to raise local parts integration from around 70 % to 75 % by 2030.
