Stellantis cuts European output, demotes Opel to regional brand in 2030 plan
Stellantis presented a new five‑year "Fastlane" strategy aiming to invest €60 billion by 2030 while reshaping its brand portfolio. Jeep, Ram, Peugeot and Fiat will become the four core global brands, receiving about 70 % of the investment and the bulk of new platforms and models. Opel, together with Chrysler, Dodge, Alfa Romeo and Citroën, is re‑classified as a regional brand, meaning it will still get new technology but loses strategic priority.
In Europe the group will cut its production capacity by roughly 800,000 vehicles per year, repurposing the Poissy plant and expanding partner productions in Rennes, Madrid and Zaragoza. A fully electric SUV built by Opel and the Chinese Leapmotor joint venture will start production in Zaragoza, with jobs in existing factories expected to be preserved. The plan also includes a €6 billion cost‑saving program targeting a 6 billion‑euro reduction in annual expenses by 2028 and aims for an operating margin of 3‑5 % in Europe (8‑10 % in North America). The announcement caused Stellantis shares to tumble more than 7 % on the Milan exchange.
