Stellantis cuts Mirafiori Hybrid output, Melfi jobs at risk

Stellantis announced a reduction in daily production at its Mirafiori plant in Turin, cutting the Fiat 500 Hybrid output from about 500 to 400 vehicles per day. The cut is attributed to component shortages linked to the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz. The company also extended the summer holiday break for workers from two to three weeks and reassured staff that there will be no layoffs or new temporary contracts.

At the same time, the Stellantis facility in Melfi, Basilicata, is experiencing a steep decline in output, falling from over 170,000 units in 2023 to around 62,000 in 2024 and projected to reach a historic low of roughly 32,000 in 2025. Unions are concerned about the possible use of extraordinary unemployment benefits and voluntary exit incentives that could affect hundreds of workers. The plant’s future hinges on the launch of new models such as the DS7, DS8, Lancia Gamma and a potential second‑generation Alfa Romeo Tonale, and on the parliamentary hearing of CEO Antonio Filosa scheduled for 17 June.
