Stellantis expands diesel offerings in Europe and Fiat production in Morocco

Stellantis is implementing strategic shifts in its manufacturing and powertrain offerings. In Morocco, the company’s Kénitra industrial complex is expanding its role within the global network. The plant is set to begin production of the new Fiat Grizzly and Fastback models in summer 2026. These vehicles will utilize the Smart Car platform, a multi-energy architecture designed to support combustion, hybrid, and fully electric powertrains.

Simultaneously, Stellantis is expanding its diesel engine lineup across at least seven car and passenger van models in Europe. This move responds to a slowdown in electric vehicle adoption rates across the continent. By maintaining diesel options—such as a new 2.2-liter engine for the Opel Zafira designed to reduce CO2 emissions—the automaker aims to capture remaining market demand as competitors move away from internal combustion technology.
