Stellantis extends Fiat 500 plant shutdown in Turin due to parts shortage

Stellantis announced an additional week of summer downtime at its Mirafiori factory in Turin, Italy, halting the assembly line from July 27 to July 31. The extra stoppage follows a previously scheduled three‑week shutdown planned for August and is attributed to shortages of key components such as engines, bumpers and electronic sensors. Union representatives of FIM Cisl also suggested that weak market demand for the Fiat 500 may be contributing to the repeated pauses.

The plant, which produces the relaunched Fiat 500 city car – now offered in hybrid and fully electric versions – had its daily assembly rate reduced earlier this year from 430 to 400 units. Stellantis aims to build about 100,000 hybrid and electric Fiat 500s by 2026, and reported a first‑quarter production of 15,000 units, though it has not confirmed whether the annual target remains achievable.
