Stellantis pauses Mirafiori output for a week as unions demand transparency

Stellantis announced that production at its Mirafiori plant in Turin will be halted for an entire week. The shutdown, justified by supply‑chain and organisational needs, has been met with criticism from the FIM‑CISL union, which says repeated stoppages create uncertainty and hardship for workers. Union leaders Rocco Cutrì and Igor Albera called for greater transparency and a more structured dialogue on the plant’s future, noting that current output targets for the electric and hybrid 500 models appear increasingly unattainable.

At a parliamentary hearing the day before, new Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa defended the company’s Italian sites, stating neither Mirafiori nor Atessa is for sale. He highlighted modest recent gains – a 15% rise in sales and a 16% increase in production in early 2026 – while acknowledging the lingering “agony” of the Italian operation. Filosa’s remarks, however, left many labour representatives and opposition politicians unsatisfied, as they continue to press for clearer commitments on investment and job security.
