Stellantis shares slide near historic lows amid recall and inflation worries
Stellantis' shares fell below €6, approaching historic lows on the Milan exchange. The slide reflects a confluence of macroeconomic pressures, including US inflation at 4.2% that dampens purchasing power in the group's key markets, and a large‑scale recall affecting more than 1.3 million Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator models over fire‑risk concerns.
Analysts have cut target prices, with Citigroup lowering its estimate to €7.2 and Bank of America rating the stock underperform. The company also faces operational challenges in Italy, where production at the Mirafiori plant is slated to be reduced by about 10% amid weaker demand for the 500 hybrid model. CEO Antonio Filosa is scheduled to appear before the Italian Chamber of Deputies on 17 June for a hearing on the group's strategic plan, following a meeting with Italian unions.
These developments highlight investor scepticism about Stellantis' restructuring plan and its ability to navigate higher costs, competitive pressure from Chinese EV makers, and ongoing industrial disputes in Italy.
