Stellantis shuts Cassino plant until end of August

Stellantis announced that production at its Cassino plant in Lazio, Italy, will remain halted until 31 August. The shutdown covers the assembly, stamping and painting lines, the core of the facility’s output. Workers will be on leave from 3 to 16 August, extending the plant’s inactivity by an additional 17 days.

In the first half of the year the plant produced just over 4,000 vehicles, mainly Alfa Romeo Stelvio, Alfa Romeo Giulia and Maserati Grecale, and is projected to reach only about 8,000 units for the full year without a volume increase. The workforce has fallen from roughly 4,400 to just over 2,000 employees, with many on a solidarity contract.

The Cassino site was excluded from Stellantis’ industrial plan presented on 21 May in Michigan. The company says the plant will later be integrated into a Maserati relaunch, but the related programs have been pushed back to December. Union leader Andrea Di Traglia of FIOM‑CGIL described the situation as catastrophic and urged government intervention.
