Stellantis Cassino plant production crisis

Stellantis has implemented a significant production halt at its Cassino plant in Lazio, Italy, affecting assembly, stamping, and painting lines. The shutdown, which includes worker leave through mid-August, has extended the facility’s inactivity. Production volumes have declined significantly, with the workforce dropping from approximately 4,400 to just over 2,000 employees.

The plant was notably excluded from Stellantis’ industrial plan presented in May. While the company indicated the site would eventually be integrated into a Maserati relaunch, those programs have been delayed until December. Union leaders have described the situation as “catastrophic,” calling for government intervention.

As the shutdown period nears its end, uncertainty persists regarding a full restart. While the sheet metal and painting departments are scheduled to reopen in late August, the assembly department has no confirmed reopening date and is expected to remain closed until at least September. Labor unions, including Uilm, have characterized the situation as a “structural crisis” rather than a standard seasonal break, demanding new vehicle models and investments to prevent regional economic failure.
