Stellantis to launch Jeep Compass in South America using Leapmotor technology

Stellantis is developing a new Jeep Compass specifically for the South American market, incorporating electrified technology from its Chinese partner, Leapmotor. The vehicle is scheduled to debut in 2028.

To manage costs, the South American model will utilize the existing FCA Small Wide architecture rather than the STLA Medium platform used for the European and North American versions. While the structural foundation remains similar to current models like the Jeep Commander, the new Compass will feature updated exterior design, cabin layouts, and enhanced digital and safety systems.

The powertrain will include new electrified options, such as an evolution of the 1.3-liter dual-fuel Turbo Flex engine paired with a 48V mild hybrid system. There are also plans for an extended-range option utilizing Leapmotor technology, featuring a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine acting as a generator. Production is expected to take place at the Goiana Assembly Complex in Pernambuco, which is currently being retrofitted to assemble Leapmotor SUVs.
