Stellantis to reposition Peugeot and Citroën in Brazil through Dongfeng partnership

Stellantis announced a strategic overhaul of its French brands in Brazil. Peugeot will be shifted to a niche, premium position above Fiat, while Citroën will occupy a separate niche to avoid internal competition. The plan relies on an expanded partnership with China’s Dongfeng, which will supply new platforms and models tailored for the South‑American market. Two Peugeot models from the Dongfeng collaboration are already approved for Brazil, with additional vehicles expected in the coming years.

The company aims to preserve all its brands rather than consolidate, emphasizing complementary product lines. Stellantis also highlighted the rapid rise of Chinese automakers in Brazil, noting they currently hold about 20% of the market and could grow substantially if regulatory conditions allow. To stay competitive, Stellantis has aligned with Leapmotor for electric‑vehicle technology and warned that unchecked Chinese growth could impact the domestic industry.
