Stephan El Shaarawy returns to Genoa CFC
Genoa CFC has officially announced the return of Stephan El Shaarawy, who joins the club as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with AS Roma. The 33-year-old forward, who began his professional career in Genoa's youth academy, returns to the club where he made his senior debut during the 2008/09 season.
El Shaarawy, an Italian-Egyptian international with over 500 professional appearances and 100 career goals, will reunite with former Roma teammate and current Genoa manager Daniele De Rossi. The player expressed that returning to the club feels “like a circle closing” and noted that Genoa is part of his DNA.
In addition to the El Shaarawy signing, Genoa has also secured the loan of Robinho Junior from Santos FC, with an option to purchase. The club's Chief of Football, Diego Lopez, stated that the acquisition of El Shaarawy will bring class, experience, and identity to the squad.
