Stephan El Shaarawy return to Genoa CFC

Genoa CFC has finalized the return of Stephan El Shaarawy. The 33-year-old forward, who began his professional career in Genoa’s youth academy and made his senior debut during the 2008/09 season, joined as a free agent following his departure from AS Roma.

This move reunites El Shaarawy with his former Roma teammate and current Genoa manager, Daniele De Rossi. The Italian-Egyptian international, who has recorded over 500 professional appearances and 100 career goals, described the move as “closing a circle” and noted that Genoa is “part of his DNA.”

Upon the official announcement, Genoa’s Chief of Football, Diego Lopez, stated the signing was intended to add “class, experience, and identity to the squad.”

In addition to the El Shaarawy signing, the club has been active in squad restructuring. This includes the acquisition of English right-back Cody Drameh from Hull City for approximately 4.5 million euros, following the 14 million euro sale of Brooke Norton-Cuffy to the same club. Genoa has also secured the loan of Robinho Junior from Santos FC, which includes an option to purchase.
