Stephen Fleming leaves Chennai Super Kings after 18 years

Chennai Super Kings announced on 13 July 2026 that head coach Stephen Fleming and the franchise have mutually agreed to part ways, ending an 18‑year association that began when he joined as a player in the inaugural IPL season (2008) and became head coach in 2009. Under Fleming, CSK won five IPL titles (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, 2023) and two Champions League Twenty20 trophies, reached the playoffs a record 12 times and appeared in ten finals. The team’s performance has slipped, missing the playoffs in three consecutive seasons (2024‑2026). The club thanked Fleming for his “unwavering commitment, passion and leadership”, quoting owner Rupa Gurunath and managing director K.S. Viswanathan on his role in shaping the franchise’s culture. Fleming said, “Eighteen years is a lifetime in sport… I leave with nothing but gratitude.” No successor has been named; reports mention former Indian cricketer Hemang Badani, former England player Brendon McCullum and others as possible candidates. Fleming will remain involved with CSK’s sister franchises Texas Super Kings and Joburg Super Kings unless a further decision is made.
