Sterea Ellada officials promote tourism in New York

Fanis Spanos, Governor of Sterea Ellada, and Fani Papathomata, Vice Governor of Tourism and Culture, concluded an official visit to New York on October 22, 2026. The mission focused on enhancing tourism outreach and strengthening ties with the Greek diaspora.

A central event of the visit was the ‘Tourism Open Days Workshop New York 2026’ held in Manhattan. This networking platform connected Greek destinations and tourism professionals with over 50 international industry representatives. During the workshop, Governor Spanos highlighted the region's diverse offerings, including its history, natural resources, religious tourism, and gastronomy.

Vice Governor Papathomata specifically promoted key destinations such as Delphi, Thermopylae, Karpenisi, Eretria, Parnassus, Evia, Skyros, and the Monastery of Saint Luke. The initiative was held under the auspices of the Greek National Tourism Organization, the Embassy of Greece in Washington, and the Consulate General of Greece in New York.

The delegation also met with Archbishop Elpidophoros and other high-ranking clergy at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Manhattan during a ceremony for the ordination of 47 new ‘Archons’ of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
