Steve Hilton proposes new office to revitalize California nightlife

Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton has proposed an initiative to revitalize California’s nightlife economy by reducing bureaucratic barriers. A central component of his plan is the creation of an ‘Office of Fun and Freedom’ within the governor’s office, designed to streamline the permitting process for live entertainment, community events, and food pop-ups.

Hilton intends to audit regulations regarding public spaces and nightlife within his first 100 days in office. His proposal includes the implementation of a single online hub for state event permits, featuring a system where delayed responses from officials would result in automatic approval.

To empower local communities, Hilton suggests allowing venues to approve alcohol sales as late as 4 a.m., a change from the current state law that prohibits sales between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. Additionally, his platform includes allowing bars and restaurants to offer complimentary drinks or two-for-one deals and creating streamlined permits for small venues hosting live music.
