Steve Hilton California gubernatorial campaign proposals

Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton has introduced several policy proposals for California. His initial platform focused on a major tax overhaul, proposing the elimination of state income taxes for residents earning up to $150,000 and an 8% flat tax for those earning above that amount. To finance these cuts, Hilton proposed significant spending reductions, including the permanent termination of the $126 billion high-speed rail project and defunding what he called the “homeless industrial complex.” His plan also included a 10% reduction in the Sacramento bureaucracy workforce and a 5% efficiency savings target for state departments.

Following these fiscal proposals, Hilton introduced an initiative to revitalize the state’s nightlife economy. This plan includes the creation of an ‘Office of Fun and Freedom’ to streamline permitting for live entertainment and community events. Key components of this proposal involve auditing public space regulations, implementing an online permit hub with automatic approval for delayed responses, and allowing venues to approve alcohol sales as late as 4 a.m.
