Steven Cheng develops AI laser system to eliminate mosquitoes

Robotics expert Steven Cheng has developed an AI-powered laser system designed to eliminate mosquitoes. Utilizing computer vision and deep learning, the system uses a DSLR camera with a zoom lens to identify insects and target them with a laser.

Cheng spent four months developing the system and building a comprehensive image database, noting that the process involved numerous mosquito bites during the training phase. To ensure safety, the setup includes a wide-angle camera that automatically cuts power to the laser if humans or flammable objects enter the field of view. Cheng reported that the system successfully eliminated all mosquitoes in a room during a single night of testing.
