Steyr and TU Wien launch hydrogen agriculture research project
Steyr and TU Wien have launched the HYTRAC hydrogen agriculture research project to develop low-carbon agricultural mechanization. The initiative focuses on a hydrogen-powered tractor integrated with on-farm hydrogen storage and refueling infrastructure, known as COMBHY.
Building on the Steyr FCTRAC concept, the project utilizes a hydrogen internal combustion engine and an advanced electric power-split eCVT transmission. The goal is to create a scalable energy ecosystem that maintains the performance and flexibility required for modern farming. Real-world demonstrations are scheduled to take place at the Energy Hub Neusiedl in Austria.
