Stiftung Warentest ranks Nutella third in nut-nougat cream study

A recent investigation by Stiftung Warentest into 18 different nut-nougat creams has found that Nutella ranks third with an overall grade of 2.2. While testers praised its aromatic and slightly vanilla flavor, the product was penalized for its high sugar content, which stands at 57 percent.

Two products shared the top spot with an overall grade of 2.0. The first is the Aldi brand 'Nusskati', which was highlighted as a value leader due to its low price of approximately 50 cents per 100 grams and its strong cocoa flavor. The second winner is the dark hazelnut cream from the Thuringian manufacturer Goldhelm. Goldhelm achieved a perfect 1.0 in sensory testing due to its high hazelnut content of over 50 percent, though it is significantly more expensive at roughly six euros per 100 grams.

The study evaluated various categories, including taste, nutritional values, and pollutant levels, covering mainstream brands, discount store private labels, organic products, and vegan alternatives.
