STMicroelectronics launches dual-accelerometer 6-axis IMUs

STMicroelectronics has launched two new 6-axis inertial measurement units (IMUs) designed to enhance motion sensing and event reconstruction across consumer and industrial sectors.

The LSM6DSK320X is aimed at consumer electronics like smart tags and fitness trackers, while the industrial-grade ISM6HGK256X is intended for robotics, drones, and asset monitoring. Both sensors utilize a super-symmetric gyroscope architecture with mirrored electromechanical structures to cancel out external vibration and shock.

A key feature is the integration of two accelerometers in a single package operating at different ranges. This allows the devices to capture low-range disturbances up to ±16 g and high-g events up to ±320g without the measurement gaps typical of single-accelerometer systems. Both units include a machine-learning core (MLC) to perform AI processing directly within the sensor, reducing power and system-level processing needs.
