STMicroelectronics 6-axis IMU product launch

Overview

STMicroelectronics has introduced a new lineup of miniature 6-axis inertial measurement units (IMUs) designed for high-precision motion tracking and event reconstruction.

The product range includes the consumer-focused LSM6DSK320X, intended for devices such as fitness trackers and smart tags, and the industrial-grade ISM6HGK256X, aimed at robotics, drones, and asset monitoring. These sensors utilize a super-symmetric gyroscope architecture and integrate two accelerometers in a single package to capture both low-range disturbances and high-g events without measurement gaps.

Developed under the ST Sustainable Technology initiative, the sensors are BPA-free and Pb-free. They feature a machine-learning core (MLC) to perform AI processing directly within the sensor, which helps reduce power consumption. The technology is intended to support advanced applications such as accident alerting, concussion detection, and drone flight stabilization.
