STMicroelectronics launches integrated MEMS safety sensors for vehicles
STMicroelectronics has announced the mass production of four new integrated automotive safety sensors that combine multi-axis accelerometers and gyroscopes into a single package. These products are designed to support both passive safety, such as airbag deployment and rollover detection, and active safety functions, including vehicle stability control and radar beam stabilization.
This launch marks the first mass-market product released by ST following its acquisition of NXP’s automotive and industrial MEMS sensor business. The company aims to simplify system design and reduce development time for automakers and Tier-1 suppliers by using a common sensor platform that allows for scalable performance across different vehicle grades.
To support long-term automotive lifecycles, STMicroelectronics is guaranteeing a minimum supply of these sensors for 15 years. The products comply with ISO 26262 safety standards and feature the SafeSPI interface for individual monitoring of accelerometer and gyroscope data. The release comes amid market projections from Omdia suggesting the ADAS inertial measurement unit (IMU) market will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 17.7 percent between 2025 and 2030.
